Imagine an eight grade boy playing a prank on a teacher he didn’t like by painting the teachers desk a different color. What should be done to the student? I would say a suspension for a few days are in order and maybe some after school work like picking up trash or something.
Now imagine that same eighth grader changing the desktop wall paper of the teachers computer admittedly using the admin password that MANY students knew and used because it was the teacher’s last name. Now also imagine this is the second time he has been caught.
What should be the deserved punishment? 10 day suspension? Expulsion?
Nope a FELONY
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has charged Domanik Green, an eighth-grader at Paul R. Smith Middle School, with an offense against a computer system and unauthorized access, a felony.

This is so wrong. Yes the kid messed up big time, but completely ruining his life for a harmless “crime” is worse. He hasn’t even graduated and his life is now ruined.
Maybe the teacher should be fired for having an easy password.

This is ridiculous. I keep finding more and more of these instances where the punishment does not fit the crime whatsoever. In fact the teacher and IT staff should be held accountable for negligence. A 3 day suspension seems reasonable to me, a month of community service at the school even… but a felony charge? #WTF
